A Green Forest man was arrested last week in Mountain Home and charged with maintaining a gambling house, according to a report by the Baxter Bulletin. Daniel Paul Scallorn, 33, was arrested Wednesday, July 27, the Bulletin reported.

Another Carroll County resident has died in the past week from complications related to COVID-19, but the number of active cases showed a slight seven-day decrease. The additional death — included in the July 29 report from the Arkansas Department of Health — raised the local death toll to 108 since the pandemic began.

The Eureka Springs City Council has taken the first step in regulating camping on private property. At its regular meeting Monday, July 25, at The Auditorium, the council voted 5-1 to assign a number and approve the first reading of an ordinance aimed at cutting down on camping or using a vehicle as temporary residence that may draw the ire of neighboring residents.

Employees at Tyson Foods will soon have access to expanded educational opportunities thanks to a new partnership between Tyson and social impact company Guild. The partnership — funded by a four-year, $60 million investment — will allow Tyson to expand its existing Upward Academy program to include access to more than 175 programs from some of the nation’s top universities and learning providers.
