Another COVID-related death was reported in Carroll County, bringing the number of those who have died from complications related to the novel coronavirus to 105. The additional death was accompanied by yet another increase in active cases, with 59 reported Friday, June 17, by the Arkansas Department of Health.

First National Bank of North Arkansas has announced it will be transitioning from a national charter to a state charter, pending regulatory approval from the Arkansas State Bank Department, and changing its name to Bank of 1889.

Firefighters from several local departments spent three hours Sunday fighting a blaze at a local tavern. Eureka Springs fire marshal James Cowan said Eureka Springs firefighters received a call around 10 a.m.

The local Mennonite Disaster Services Search and Rescue team had a busy night Saturday, June 18, on the Kings River. Ted Hostetler, a team leader for the search and rescue team, said there were two separate emergencies.

Thanks to the generosity of several individuals and businesses, 21 local students will be able to participate in summer band camps. Jim Swiggart with the Carroll County Community Orchestra recently announced that, because of the financial support from the community, students will receive scholarships to attend summer camps at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

The Carroll County Senior Activity and Wellness Center is located at 202 W. Madison Ave. in Berryville. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Lunch is served at noon each weekday.
