The Green Forest Tigers are back in familiar territory. The Tigers have advanced to the championship game of the Class 3A state soccer tournament for the third time in the past five years, defeating Central Arkansas Christian 4-1 in the semifinal round on Saturday, May 13, in Harrison.

By any measure, the Berryville Bobcats had a successful soccer season in 2023. After missing the state tournament a year ago, the Bobcats returned this spring and made a statement with a pair of victories that put them one game away from an appearance in the state championship game.

Going into the Class 3A state track and field championships on Tuesday, May 2, at Prescott, Green Forest sophomore Lydia Russell was projected to have a pretty good day. But seeing the projections was nothing like seeing Russell’s performance in person, Green Forest coach Kelby Harness said.

Two years removed from a state championship, the Green Forest Tigers have their sights set on another trophy. The Tigers will open play Thursday, May 11, in the Class 3A state tournament in Harrison.

Berryville coach Grant Hutson says there are no moral victories for the Bobcats, so there was no satisfaction in a hardfought loss at Clarksville in the district tournament championship game on Thursday, May 4.
