Atchison’s big hits power Green Forest rally

Posted

Shortstop Colin Atchison had two hits and drove in three runs as the Green Forest Tigers rallied for a 5-3 victory over the visiting Cotter Warriors in high school baseball action on Thursday, April 23.

Cotter led 3-2 going into the bottom of the third inning, but an error, a hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases for Atchison, and he delivered. Atchinson’s single to left field scored Kasen Robinson and Radon Lawrence to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

Atchison provided another key hit for Green Forest in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out, two-strike double that scored Ryne Stone with an insurance run tho make it 5-3.

The Tigers’ pitching combination of Stone and Robinson held Cotter scoreless over the final four innings to preserve the win.

Stone, the starter, struck out four batters while allowing three runs on six hits before exiting with one out in the fifth.

Robinson took it from there, holding the Warriors hitless the rest of the way. He struck out four batters, hit one and did not allow a walk.

The victory over Cotter followed back-to-back losses to Pea Ridge earlier in the week. The Blackhawks defeated Green Forest 13-2 in Pea Ridge on Monday, April 20, then won 15-3 as the visiting team the following night.

Gavin Tharp had two hits in the first game against Pea Ridge, while Radon Lawrence recorded two hits in the second meeting.

Green Forest was scheduled to host Prairie Grove on Monday, April 27. The two teams were slated to play again Tuesday, April 28, in Prairie Grove.
