Griffin's slam boosts Berryville

Sage Griffin’s inside-the-park grand slam handed the Berryville Lady Bobcats a four-run lead on the way to an 11-2 victory over visiting Shiloh Christian in high school softball action on Monday, April 20.

Cora Matteson, Lexy Pittman and Addi Teigen scored ahead of Griffin to put the Lady Bobcats ahead 5-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Lady Bobcats put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Matteson’s two-run triple. Sophia Sharp, Ryleigh Walker, Pittman and Teigen all added RBI singles during Berryville’s big inning.

Pittman had four of the Lady Bobcats’ 15 hits. Griffin, Kendall Gonce and Naveah Duarte added two hits apiece.

The first five batters in Berryville’s lineup — Matteson, Pittman, Teigen, Griffin and Gonce — all scored two runs apiece. They combined for 11 hits and nine RBIs.

Matteson earned the pitching victory, holding the Lady Saints to two runs on nine hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

Shiloh Christian won the rematch Tuesday, April 21, in Springdale, beating the Lady Bobcats 7-3.

Teigen had two hits and scored twice, while Griffin drove in two runs for Berryville. Matteson struck out six batters.

The Lady Bobcats lost a heartbreaker at Harrison on Thursday, April 23, as the Lady Goblins scored the game-winning run with two out in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-5 victory.

Berryville had taken a 5-3 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth on consecutive RBI doubles by Teigen, Griffin and Gonce.

Harrison tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Bobcats’ first two runs came on a run-scoring groundout by Tinley Swofford and an RBI single by Duarte in the top of the second for a 2-1 Berryville lead.

Gonce had three of the Lady Bobcats’ nine hits.

Berryville closes out the regular season this week. The Lady Bobcats were scheduled to play at Huntsville on Monday, April 27. The game against the Lady Eagles that had been scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 30, because of expected inclement weather.

BASEBALL

Saints sweep Bobcats

Berryville’s baseball team lost two games to Shiloh Christian, losing 16-1 and 23-0.

Colton Franklin drove in MT Tom for Berryville’s only run in the first game.
