BHS Bobcat Drama will open its production of “The Wizard of Oz” Thursday night, April 10, in the Berryville High School Performing Arts Center.
The show was chosen in part because of the wildly “popular” (pun intended) film, “Wicked,” which offers up the first installment of the back story of Glinda (the good) and Elphaba, and how Elphaba came to be known as the Wicked Witch. Director Meleia Lewis and music director Cole Moix chose to double- cast the primary characters, referring to the two casts as the “Green” and “Pink” casts.
The Pink cast consists of Dorothy (Sadie Sharp), Scarecrow (Oliver Bemis), Tin Man (A.C. Calvillo), Cowardly Lion (Karson Casey), Glinda (Averie Engel), the Wicked Witch (Faith McKinney) and the Wizard (BHS history teacher Hunter Rivett).
The Green cast consists of Dorothy (Paige Thurman), Scarecrow (Jacob Ellis), Tin Man (Reece Williams), Cowardly Lion (Andrew Griesenauer), Glinda (Adelle Cabrales), the Wicked Witch (Keily Diaz) and the Wizard (Austin Hattenhauer). Keegan Morgan performs with both casts as Uncle Henry and the Emerald City Guard.
Other members of the ensemble include Ford Byerley, Talon Ellis, Jazmine Lopez, Jennifer Carrera and Kady Kendrick, as well as youth ensemble members Jaxson Ryker, Aaron Orman, Tempe Orman, Ada Worley, Annlee Ashworth, Jaylinn Hernandez, Abby McKinney, Paolette Trujillo, Zelphia Backs, Elli Martinez, Adilyn Woodruff, Ryan Curtis, and Ali Curtis. And, finally, Kronk and Dolly (the Totos!).
Stage manager for the musical is Ashlee Bills, with Sage Tresler and Cesia Umana serving as assistant stage managers. Community volunteer Chloe Vasey is serving as the director’s assistant.
Students Kynadei Spring and Sadie Sharp have provided choreography for the show. Many other students are working on the various crews.
The Pink Cast will perform on at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The Green Cast will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12. Advance tickets are available at onthestage. com.
Admission at the door is $7 for children/ students and $12 for adults. See updates on BHS Bobcat Drama’s FaceBook and Instagram accounts.
New for this show, the BHS Bobcat Drama Club will be selling “ Congrats- a- grams” for $1 each. These will be blank notes you can personalize for your favorite cast or crew members, to be delivered to them before or after the show.
