Blue Eye beats Bobcats with 3 at final buzzer

Posted

It was a tough ending to a tough week for the Berryville Bobcats.

Blue Eye sophomore Braxton Bell made a three-pointer from the left baseline at the final buzzer on Saturday to lift the Bulldogs to a 46-44 victory over the Bobcats in the annual Border War Shootout at North Arkansas College in Harrison.

Bell’s basket spoiled a late rally by Berryville, which trailed 43-39 with 59 seconds left but got a three-pointer by sophomore Carson McMellon to pull within one point and then took a 44-43 lead on a driving bucket by junior Peyton Smith with 17 seconds left.

Smith scored 18 points to lead Berryville, which earlier in the week had lost its first two conference games of the season. The Bobcats lost at Prairie Grove 64-46 on Tuesday, Dec. 17, then fell to Shiloh Christian by a score of 68-28 on Friday, Dec. 20, at Bobcat Arena.

Smith led the Bobcats with 14 points against Prairie Grove and nine against Shiloh.

Berryville faces Mountain View at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, in the first round of the 15th annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops tournament at Bobcat Arena.
