District Mission: Ensuring high levels of learning for everyone, every day!

Berryville School District is taking another step toward strengthening student success and supporting educators by expanding its “Late Start Monday” schedule to include grades K–5 beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

Starting Monday, Aug. 17, elementary and intermediate schools will align with the existing late start schedule already in place for grades 6–12. This shift reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to improving instruction through dedicated teacher collaboration time.

For a few years, “Late Start Mondays” in grades 6–12 have provided teachers with valuable, uninterrupted time to work together, analyze student data and refine instructional strategies. By extending this model to younger grades, Berryville aims to ensure all students benefit from a more cohesive and focused approach to learning.

“The additional time on late start Mondays has been extremely helpful for our team. It allows us to collaboratively plan units, analyze student data to determine what is and isn’t working, and ensure consistency in grading by reviewing assessments together. We also use this time to plan targeted remediation for students who have not yet reached proficiency. Without this dedicated time built into our schedule, it would be very difficult to effectively complete this level of collaboration and data analysis,”   said Erin Hall, high school math teacher.

The practice has also been beneficial in middle school.

Kayla Sargant, sixth grade teacher, stated, “Late start Mondays have been very beneficial for our team. The additional time has allowed us to meet consistently within our content area, collaborate more effectively and be more intentional with our planning. Because of that dedicated time, we’ve been able to improve instruction, analyze student data more closely and make timely adjustments that directly support student growth. It has strengthened both our instruction and our collective impact on student learning.”

What’s Changing? On Mondays only, K-5 students will begin their school day slightly later than usual. Bus riders and car riders should plan to arrive at school by 8 a.m., with the first bell ringing at 8:20 a.m. and classes beginning at 8:25 a.m. Importantly, dismissal times will remain unchanged, ensuring consistency for families at the end of the day.

Support for students and families: Despite the later start, schools will continue to offer breakfast, and students will have ample time to eat before class begins. Staff members will be on hand to supervise arrivals, assist with car rider lines and monitor the cafeteria during breakfast.

The district recognizes that schedule changes can impact families differently. For those who may need earlier drop-off options on Mondays because of work commitments, families are encouraged to contact their building principal. The district is committed to working with each family to ensure all students and families are accommodated.

This change applies only to Mondays, with the rest of the week continuing on the regular schedule. By aligning all grade levels under the same “Late Start Monday” structure, Berryville Schools are creating a unified system that prioritizes both instructional quality and student achievement.
