Bobcats fall to Bergman in finals of Green Forest tournament

Posted

The Berryville Bobcats advanced to the championship game of last week’s Anstaff Bank Green Forest Holiday Tournament before falling to a talented Bergman team 67-43 in the championship game on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Berryville defeated Blue Eye 5654 in a semifinal game on Monday, Dec. 9. Sophomore CT Hicks led the Bobcats with 21 points against Blue Eye. Junior Peyton Smith added 17 for Berryville, which outscored the Bulldogs 17-12 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Against Bergman, the Bobcats fell behind 28-16 at halftime and 49-32 by the end of the third quarter. Smith led Berryville with 24 points.

“Bergman is a senior-laden team and a team that’s been to the state finals two years in a row and looks like a team that could go back again this year in 3A,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said. “So we knew it was going to be tough. I was proud of our kids the way they competed. It was a very physical game, way more physical than any game we’re going to play this year. So that part of it hopefully made us better.”

The Bobcats, who start four sophomores and a junior, open conference play this week, traveling to Prairie Grove on Tuesday, Dec. 17, before hosting Shiloh Christian on Friday, Dec. 20, at Bobcat Arena.

“It’s going to take a little bit of time to get everything going,” Compton said. “But we’re making strides every day and our kids are competing as hard as they can. And that’s all I can ask from them.”
