Posted

The Berryville Bobcats split their first two games over the weekend in the Wyandotte Classic in Wyandotte, Okla.

The Bobcats lost a slugfest to Afton, Okla., by a score of 13-10 on Friday, March 20, but bounced back to defeat Welch, Okla., 9-5, the next day.

Berryville’s opener against Afton featured plenty of offense on both sides, with the Bobcats collecting 13 hits but unable to overcome defensive struggles.

Berryville struck first, scoring a run in the opening inning before adding eight more runs over the next four innings to build a 9-5 lead. The Bobcats continued to produce at the plate, finishing with 10 runs, but Afton used a five-run fifth inning to swing momentum and take control.

Jordy Casey led the Bobcats offensively, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Hayden Campbell added a strong performance at the plate with three hits and an RBI, while Colton Franklin contributed two hits and two RBIs.

CT Hicks and Cason Willing each drove in a run, and Berryville showed balance throughout the lineup with multiple players contributing hits and runs.

Berryville generated early momentum with aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. In the second inning, Hicks delivered a triple to right field that brought home a run, and Casey followed with a base hit to extend the lead. Later in the inning, Campbell drove a ball to center field to score another run as the Bobcats built a multi-run advantage.

The Bobcats continued to add on in the middle innings, with Franklin delivering a key hit to drive in a pair of runs and push the lead to four.

However, Afton responded in the fifth, taking advantage of defensive miscues and timely hitting to score five runs and erase Berryville’s lead. The Bobcats were unable to recover as Afton closed out the 13-10 win.

Berryville used multiple pitchers in the game, with Willing, Mason Bickell and Campbell all seeing time on the mound.

The Bobcats bounced back Saturday with a 9-5 win over Welch, using a strong offensive start and timely pitching to secure the victory.

Berryville jumped out early, scoring a run in the first inning before adding two more in the second and another in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Hicks again sparked the offense, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and a triple while scoring twice. Willing added three hits and two RBIs, and Casey finished with two hits and two runs scored.

The Bobcats continued to build their lead in the fourth inning when Hicks delivered a double that led to another run. Berryville added three more runs in the fifth, capitalizing on walks and aggressive baserunning to extend the advantage to 9-2.

Welch responded with a four-run fourth inning to cut into the lead, but Berryville answered with additional runs and held off the rally.

On the mound, Checotah Adcock worked three innings, allowing five runs while striking out four. MT Tom followed with a scoreless inning in relief, and Hicks closed the game to secure the win.
