Freeman Heights Baptist Church hosted its twenty-third annual AWANA Pinewood Derby Grand Prix on April 8, drawing a crowd as children raced their handcrafted cars. The church’s fellowship hall was set up as a raceway with a track and race-themed décor. Kindergartners through sixth-graders competed for awards in speed and design, and organizers noted that every participant was a winner.
A racecar was also on site, provided by Marty Strough of B&S Racing, and children had the opportunity to sit in the car and imagine what it would be like to drive a racecar.
Church leaders thanked AWANA leaders, volunteers, and families for making the event possible and said the derby continues to be a highlight of the year, bringing the church together to encourage children and celebrate their hard work.
