Green Forest High School has a new head girls basketball coach.
At its regular meeting held Tuesday, April 15, the Green Forest School Board approved hiring Jarrett Clibrey to lead the Lady Tigers program.
Clibrey is currently an assistant high school girls coach and head junior high girls coach with the Nettleton School District in Jonesboro.
“He’s got, I think, four years of experience as an assistant coach, has a very good record, and has worked under several really good coaches,” Green Forest Superintendent David Gilmore said. “We are happy to get Mr. Clibrey coming in, and he’s very excited to be moving into the area.
“I believe he’s engaged to a young woman who is a nurse and they’re going to be moving into the area. I think they’ll be a great addition to our school and our community.”
The outdoor offerings of Carroll County helped make the job more attractive to Clibrey, Gilmore said.
“He’s got a passion for basketball, obviously, but he told me he loves this area,” he said. “He said he loves the rivers and lakes and opportunities to fish and hunt and just be outdoors. His fiance has a similar sentiment to that.
“So, they’re very excited. He told me he put all the eggs into this basket and was really hoping to get this job. So, he was very happy when he did, of course.”
Gilmore said Clibrey will likely also be an assistant coach for the Green Forest softball program.
Clibrey officially takes over the position July 1, but will be in the area before then working with the team, the superintendent said.
“Technically, he’ll start July 1, but he plans to be here before then, start getting with the team and get some practices in and camps and things like that,” Gilmore said.
