GF’s Gardner shines at conference meet

Green Forest freshman Avaley Gardner won the girls 100-meter hurdles championship at the 4A-1 conference track and field meet on Wednesday, April 29, at Green Forest.

Gardner finished in a time of 17.08 seconds.

Berryville’s Keily Diaz was runner-up in the same event at 17.80 and later added a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles in 55.60.

Green Forest senior Kaylyn Smith turned in a pair of strong performances in the girls division, placing second in the triple jump with a leap of 34-5.25 and third in the 200-meter dash in 27.48.

Sister Kinly Smith, a junior, added a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 32-2.

Berryville senior Chaney Fairweather posted three top-seven finishes in field events, highlighted by fifth place in the high jump after clearing 4-6. Fairweather also placed sixth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump.

On the boys side, Berryville junior John Butler earned third place in the long jump with a mark of 19-6.5.

Berryville senior Kale Smith added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump at 38-4.75.

Green Forest’s Da Moo finished fourth in the pole vault by clearing 7-0, while teammate Elway Htoo was fifth in the same event at 6-0.

Green Forest’s Grady Massengale recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus at 128-2.
