The Berryville Lady Bobcats’ winning streak is at nine games. And counting.
The Lady Bobcats continued their hot start to the 2024-25 season by winning their first two conference games last week — winning 48-25 at Prairie Grove on Tuesday, Dec. 17, before coming from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Shiloh Christian 36-33 on Friday, Dec. 20, at Bobcat Arena.
Before beginning conference play, the Lady Bobcats won tournaments at Blue Eye and Green Forest on back-to-back weekends.
“Things are starting to click a little better,” Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said after his team won the Green Forest tournament. “Offensively, things are better than what they were to start the season. Defensively, things are better than what they were to start the season. We’ve had some really, really good practices, and that makes a difference.”
Berryville (12-1, 2-0 4A-1) jumped on Prairie Grove early, outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-6 in the first half. Sophomore point guard Paige Thurman led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points, while classmate Kaylyn Smith added nine. Junior Tessa Johnson and senior Taelor Tomlinson each scored eight points for Berryville.
Berryville trailed Shiloh Christian 2724 after three quarters but used a basket in the lane by Johnson and a nice score by junior Hailey Howerton off an inbounds pass by Thurman to take a 28-27 lead with 6:42 remaining.
Smith made the second of two free throws for a 29-27 advantage with 5:35 left, then dropped in a baseline jumper with 2:58 leaft to break a 29-29 tie.
Shiloh scored from close range with 2:06 remaining to tie the score at 31-31.
Berryville responded by scoring the game’s next five points. Senior Kynadee Hopper made a nice pass to Smith for a layup that put the Lady Bobcats ahead 33-31 with 1:46 left, then Tomlinson delivered the final blow with a deep three-pointer from the right wing that gave Berryville a five-point lead at 36-31 with 1:16 left.
Howerton led the Lady Bobcats with 12 points, while Smith added 11. Johnson added seven and Tomlinson scored six.
Berryville will face Heber Springs at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, in the first round of the 15th annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops tournament at Bobcat Arena.
