Lady Bobcats win 2, finish as runners-up

Posted

The Berryville Lady Bobcats reached the championship game of the annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops tournament last week at Bobcat Arena, defeating Mountain Pine 59-39 in a first-round game and Cassville 52-42 in the semifinals.

The Lady Bobcats lost the championship game by a score of 70-21 on Wednesday, Dec. 31, to a Mountain View team that continued to apply full-court pressure and launch three-point shots despite holding a 40-point lead in the final five minutes of the game.

On balance, Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said he was very pleased with the Lady Bobcats’ performance.

“I thought we had a really good week,” Cornelison said. “I was really proud of our effort. I thought our Cassville game was one of our more complete games that we had played all year. … We really started to do a lot of the things that I thought we were capable of doing. So it was nice to see us take that next step and hopefully we can take that and move right on into conference with it.”

Berryville’s seniors led the way, as guard Paige Thurman had 14 points against both Mountain Pine and Cassville. Chaney Fairweather scored 14 in the win over Cassville, while Hailey Howerton scored 12 points against Mountain Pine and had 13 in the championship game against Mountain View.

Berryville will travel to Gravette on Tuesday, Jan. 6, before hosting Green Forest on Friday, Jan. 9, at Bobcat Arena.
