The Viola Lady Longhorns scored 10 consecutive points to end the first quarter and went on to a 45-27 victory over the Green Forest Lady Tigers in the seventh-place game of the 15th annual CS Bank Holiday Hoops tournament on Saturday, Dec. 28, at Bobcat Arena in Berryville.
Green Forest lost its firstround game to De Queen, 6626, on Thursday, Dec. 26, and then lost to Heber Springs 5725 on Friday, Dec. 27.
Against Viola, Lady Tigers sophomore Lisbet Rosales sank a jumper from the free-throw line for a 4-4 tie with 1:49 remaining in the first quarter, but the Lady Longhorns closed the quarter with a 10-0 run, then added a three-pointer for a 17-4 lead early in the second quarter.
Green Forest senior Johneese Smalley scored a pair of baskets from close range and converted an offensive rebound into a three-point play but Viola led 23-11 at halftime.
Another basket by Smalley got the Lady Tigers within 31--17 late in the third quarter, but Viola scored the next seven points to open up a 21-point advantage.
Smalley led Green Forest with nine points, while senior Lydia Russell added eight and Rosales scored seven.
Green Forest will host Pea Ridge on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Grim Gym.
