Local baseball, softball teams bow out in district tournaments

The Huntsville Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Green Forest 6-5 in the 4A-1 district baseball tournament on Monday, April 28, ending the Tigers’ season.

Green Forest, which scored four runs in the top of the first inning, led 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Huntsville took advantage of a pair of Green Forest errors. The second came with two out and the Tigers clinging to a 5-4 lead. The tying run scored on that play, and the winning run crossed the plate one batter later on a wild pitch.

Green Forest senior Mason Meador pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs — only one of them earned — on four hits and a walk. He struck out 10 batters.

Radon Lawrence had two hits and Ryne Stone drove in two runs to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Prairie Grove 13, Berryville 3

Prairie Grove scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to a six-inning victory over Berryville in the first round of the 4A-1 district tournament on April 28.

Titus Gregory had two of Berryville’s four hits. The Bobcats scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. Gregory, Cooper Summers and Cason Willing each had one run score for the Bobcats.

Softball

Prairie Grove 10, Berryville 0

Prairie Grove shut out Berryville in the first round of the 4A-1 district tournament on April 28 to end the Lady Bobcats’ season.

Hannah Campbell had Berryville’s only hit of the game.

Huntsville 21, Green Forest 12

The Huntsville Lady Eagles scored 16 runs over the final three innings to erase an 11-5 deficit and defeat Green Forest in six innings in the first round of the 4A-1 district tournament on April 28.

The Lady Tigers scored seven runs in the top of the fourth to take a six-run lead, but Huntsville answered with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.

Bella and Audrey Phillips each had three hits and two runs batted in for Green Forest, while Brinley Bishop, Tay’sha Luedke and Natalie Asbury also drove in two runs apiece for the Lady Tigers. Audrey Phillips scored three runs.
