Berryville’s Keily Diaz, Green Forest’s Kaylyn Smith and Eureka Springs’ Addie Blackwelder each turned in winning performances while several other Carroll County athletes recorded top-three finishes in the Tyson Relays held Thursday, March 12, at Green Forest High School.
Diaz led the way for Berryville’s girls, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 18.83 seconds and finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.39.
Teammate Chaney Fairweather also claimed an event victory, winning the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 11 inches. Fairweather added a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 13 feet, 4 inches.
Berryville’s Bella Biggerstaff turned in a pair of runner- up finishes in the throwing events, placing second in the discus with a throw of 71-0 and second in the shot put with a mark of 26-6.
For the Berryville boys, Kale Smith posted two second place finishes, placing second in the 100-meter dash in 12.22 seconds and second in the triple jump with a leap of 37-6. Zander Borkowski also had a strong meet, finishing second in the 400 meters in 59.95 seconds and third in the 200 meters with a time of 26.19.
Berryville also captured first place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.99 seconds.
Smith had a standout day for the Green Forest girls, winning the triple jump with a mark of 32-5 while also placing second in the 100-meter dash in 14.25 seconds.
Emily Sales added two distance medals for Green Forest, winning the 1,600-meter run in 6:42.24 and finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 3:05.24.
On the boys side, Andrix Ryan led the way for Green Forest, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 19.87 seconds and finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.05. Anthony Gonzalez added a third-place finish in the 400 meters in 1:03.06.
Eureka Springs also had several strong individual performances. Blackwelder won the girls pole vault by clearing 6-0 and finished third in the shot put with a throw of 22-6.
Highlander distance runner Yohannes Piepho turned in two runner-up finishes, placing second in the 800 meters in 2:29.76 and second in the 1,600 meters in 5:18.30.
